Gonna be busy with a s50b32 swap soon and just gathering the required parts/stuff etc. I have a question, which is better, standard ecu or aftermarket management? (go tech, dicktator, etc).??????

What do you mean by "better"? Obviously you have more tuning capability with a standalone, or even a piggyback, but it's more expensive and obviously you have the hassle of tuning. -
dick tater sounds interesting... But unless you have a pro to dyno tune it for you, i doubt you'd end up any better off than with the stock ecu.

The problem im having here in south africa is there are not mny guys that can do the ews delete and so on,especially that this motor runs on the siemens ecu, they can do it but have too many problems after. The other alternative is to change the cams,cam box and vanos as well as entire engine harness to the s50b30 which does not have any problem running here , but that a whole expense on its own. The management i quoted above does have vanos control and there are plenty of guys who can set it up so i was just wondering if it would be better and easier to just trash the stock ecu and harness and go with the managementComment

Well it sounds like staying stock will be a bigger hassle. for now im just listening to people who have done it before,something about the transponder on the key and stuff..... please tell me what are the right components bearing in mind this motor has a siemens ecu and double vanosComment

The componants that talk to one another are the EWS box (gray w/ yellow top), key, and DME. If you have all of those componants that came with the car you are fine. You also need a RF transmit/receive box and the RF antenna ring. These are not specific and can be purchased any where.
A good wiring diagram for the setup is as follows:

If you have a key, EWS box and DME from different cars, you can send them out to be reprogrammed to speak to one another. I have a source for this if you are interested.Comment

Huh, mine is wired differently than that picture. Mine is wired as follows:
Grey box
-EWS 1 (black/yellow) to X20 connector #18
-EWS 2 (small white/purple) to X20 #17 (this is the diagnostic port- not required but needed to diagnose any EWS issues)
-ignition tumbler position 3 to EWS pin 3 (big black/green)
-EWS 4 (green) to X20 #7
-EWS 5 (red/yellow) to +12V power
-EWS 7 (brown) to ground
-EWS 12 (black) to X20 #20
-EWS 13 (light blue) to EWS transmit box wire #1 (blue)
-IF USING a auto tranny EWS system- you might need to connect EWS 9 to +12V power.
EWS transmit box
-1 to EWS 13
-2 to +12V power
-3 to ground
other connector to antenna (key relationship to antenna IS important to a certain extent). If you have everything EWS working right, you should hear the grey EWS box "click" (like a relay closing) if you have proper alignment of the key.
Is the EWS box specific? I.e. is it programmed? I thought the only thing programmed was the DME. I thought the EWS box just transmitted between the smaller box and the DME? I thought the signal from the antenna (that read the key info) was sent to the EWS box them to the DME and then the DME returns a signal to EWS box if the signal was right. I have a BMW file that talks about the different EWS systems at home, I'll have to reread it.Comment
