Red label 413 chip in to silver label?

Will a custom chip for a red label 413 DME swap in to a silver label DME?

No, I've tried, doesn't work because of the ews. Doesn't simply delete it sadly.

Not all Silver label ECU's have EWS. If it's a '94 it doesn't. 95+, it does.

If it's an early silver I think it should work.

What about using a chip for 12/94+ M3 Silver Label 413 into a Red Label 413? Would that work?

Did this ever get answered definitively?

Did this question get definitively answered? I have:

-- Fried Silver-Label 413 DME with good chip
-- Good Red-Label 413 DME with no chip.

I want to keep everything as close to stock as possible, at least until I get the car through Calif. smog referee. No sense spending money on aftermkt chips that will likely get replaced eventually

Alternatively, does anyone have a stock M3 Red Label chip for sale?

A red label 413 chip WILL work in a silver 413... the EWS wire needs to be clipped though. A silver label 413 chip will NOT work in a red label 413 however.

I want to bump this thread because I just did this... I installed a 413 Red Label chip into a 413 Silver Label, and also clipped the green #66 wire coming out of the DME connector. Are those the only two necessary steps to disable EWS?

Do you have stock chips or something aftermarket? I found that a silver label chip won't work in anything but a 506 chip will work beautifully in a silver label 413. That's what I was running my car on, TMS 506 chip and late 413.

Yup, no start using stock chips. I took the chip from my fried red label 413 and put it into a silver label 413.
