Double trouble!

Bought a parts car for a client's car (auto 325i verts aren't supposed to be trashed right?) for $450. Built almost exactly a year apart. 4.10, auto, dark blue interior (with nice door cards somehow, no seats), plenty of rust, cold weather package, and basketweaves. Somehow has nicer taillights and better fitting check panel than mine. Going to dig into the rust to see if it's worth saving or not.





Bare minimum, also has OEM radio with damaged LCD, basketweaves, good bumpers and trim, motor, front plastic air deflector, etc.

Completed a 1500 mile road trip without any real drama. Still gets too hot in traffic. If moving it's fine. Idles low so probably a vac leak.

Cool to see you spray the panels in your garage too? Painted over some trim clips though :p

Haha yeah I realized that after taking those pics. I'll use a razor blade to free them. Yes, my father's home garage has a “curtain” paint booth setup inside it. It's like a big shower curtain that keeps dust out from the rest of the garage. Box fan in the corner provides positive pressure to blow dust out the window.


Maybe? I didn't know you could get different rings. I originally bought these for my sedan but I accidentally purchased E34 depos and needed to use them for this trip. Kinda really like them on the convertible now.

I like!
I still have some fitment tweaking to do, especially on the rear:




But I got the radiator installed and got the coolant system all sorted and got the car fired up!

Got everything wired up in the front. Some of the harness was damaged in the wreck so I had to go thru and fix some of that. Had to also wire the side marker harness to the city lights and then change the wiring around for the turn signals.

Man, love all the work you've put into this car. The interior looks great!! Did you glue the dash cap on? I've been thinking about getting one but I'm afraid to glue it down in case it decides to warp or something.

Hey man. Meant to reply earlier. Thanks! ZoomZoomZooming's kits were superb.
I have the same concern so I'm practicing crack repair on another dash I have, but I also have a BMW sunshade so I try to keep the UV off it.

Yes, I got enough from insurance to repair and swap to euro bumpers.











Awaiting some more speed nuts and some trim clips, but she's very close!






Still have to wet sand and buff the fender and hood but the euro swap is just taking it's sweet time too.

Really ready to remove the core support and get this thing 100 percent straight. More than likely I’ll be needing to replace the headlight bracket on that fender. Somehow both the SPAL fan and the AC system survived the wreck making this the 2nd wreck the SPAL fan has survived.

Still waiting on the parts to arrive to begin actually welding the car back together.

I received a plastic dash cap, thought it looked pretty good. This is a pic of it just sitting on top.

One of the better dash pads I've seen! From a distance you can't even tell it's on there.

I then replaced the seal plugs in the trunk which were drilled/knocked out when I pressure washed the trunk area.Just pop them in the hole and run a heat gun on them until the wax melts a bit.

Went right into the back of someone who stopped way beyond the yield sign.

Didn’t get totaled, got a check three days later. Ordered new core support, new euro valence, lip, and a euro bumper kit. Figured I could use these parts and the air dam on my sedan project.

I have a spare fender for that side, just working on sourcing euro grilles again and hood/hinge.

Since I’m pulling the front off and replacing the radiator again, I’m going to try the euro E36 fan with my SPAL pusher to see if I can have reasonable temps all the time.

Catching up on your build thread....you have done a huge amount of work and it is coming together really well! How badly broken is the cable for the soft top lid? There are many bicycle brake cable repair kits out there that might be able to help you repair it....otherwise finding a someone parting an iC would be the best option. Also, great info on the E39 t-stat housing, should make bleeding much easier since it is at the high point of the system. Price seems right too....I'm going to change mine over to this part when swap radiators....Thanks!

Thank you! It’s been a really great project to have. It’s not terrible, I don’t even think it’s frayed. The big problem is that it’s the end that’s broken off the cable, it broke right at the base. I’m wondering if I can solder it or weld it, I’m just surprised there isn’t a known solution already I guess. Seriously! No drama bleeding now, hope it goes as smoothly for you as it did for me.
