    Y no e34 oil pump?

Alright, I don't have an M54 with the oil pan off.
I DO have an oil pan and pump from an E34,
and an oil pan and pump from an M54.
    Sitting side by side.

Remind me: why doesn't the E34 M52 pump work on the M54 in the E30?

has forgotten why. It no obvious.

Don't they mount much differently to the block? Like the pattern is the same, but I guess the pump sits recessed into the M54.
So M54 pump in an M50 hits the pan and the chain also doesn't fit.
M54 has a bigger pump too.

ba114 Just had a bunch of machining/welding done to an M54 pump to install in an M50, for more oil flow, I assume similar work required to go the other way.

That's quite possible- I haven't had a chance to flip the M54 over
(it's still cowering in fear in the donor car)
      and try it.

Just, with the M52 and M54 pumps side by side in their
respective pans (I went nuts in the junkyard last week, and pulled both)
they LOOK like they're interchangeable. The M54 is much more of a
cradle/windage tray design, tho, where the M52 just kinda hangs out...

With any luck and lotsa gumption, I'll get that car eviscerated in the next
few weeks and get up- close and personal with its pumpy bits.

      thanks!
