Fixed one problem, but one remains. The starter wires were loose and causing the key to do nothing when I cranked it at times. Tightened the wires and it cranks everytime. It still will not run for a long period of time though. If I hold the key in the crank position, the car will run for about 10-15 seconds. I can also see the lights go dim and light back up as the engine lopes. If I just try to crank it normally, the engine dies in about 2 seconds. Ignition related maybe?

        Can you pull any codes?

Sounds like its running out of fuel/ fuel pump isnt staying on with key. Attached fuel pressure gauge at the rail and monitor fuel pressure during cranking/idle. Also keep a voltmeter on the fuel pump to see whats happening when it stalls.

sounds like a fuel issue to me as well. i am guessing its a fuel pump relay or fuel pressure regulator problem.

i ran into something like this with my obd2 s52 swap. with this application, the fuel pressure regulator was located on the body of the donor car. i tried to run it with no fuel pressure regulator and it was doing the same symptoms you describe. i installed the regulator and it worked great.

go to autozone and buy the fuel pressure guage and see what it does when you crank. since you are in houston, you can borrow mine if you wish.

Not quite sure what exactly fixed it, but I erased all of the codes (had about 14) and cleaned the ICV. It cranked right up after. I checked fuel, ignition, wires, etc. I'm beginning to believe the car has a mind of its own. Just for the thread...

Jealous at how clean that looks. Bring it up to the BMW DE at Cresson in April.

Man that is a clean and shiny looking swap. Congrats on getting the starting issue sorted.
                    It's this car, right?

Bruce if that is indeed the car I posted then I doubt he'll be interested in any DE's.
Seems more of the stance type. :)

That is my car....not really stanced out or anything, but it isn't likely to see any DE events anytime soon lol. The S4 that is also in the garage, now that may.

Hey now I never said it was a bad thing! :D
It does look pretty presentable as is.

Have you had a chance to drive it with Lee's booster delete before starting the swap?

IIRC that is Paul's old car. If it is I met the OP when he picked the car up. Must have done a lot to it in the past few years.

This is Paul's old car. I think its been 3.5 years now. It has undergone a lot of changes. I haven't driven with the boosterless setup yet. The car has been up on jackstands since finishing the brake system. Scheduled to get the exhaust on Thursday, so if all goes well, I will be testing it then.

I've been lazy with taking pictures lately, but the bay has been shaved and resprayed also. Relocated the abs unit under the front fender area (thats why the brake lines hug the rail in the pic) and relocated the charcoal canister into the fender also. Wiring is in the top of the fender. I'm still routing some things and cleaning up the wiring.
