    M54b30 head rebuild

I just picked up a m54b30 from a shop that came out of a 2001 330ci and It needs a new head, the head is 15 thousands out but all the guts are good and dandy. Im looking for a bare head and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get one for a relatively decent price?

Lemme guess... the engine overheated? Have you pulled any of the bearing caps off the cams to look at the journals?

yea my buddy at the machine shop checked it all out and did some measuring and everything and all the internals are ok and nothing inside is wrong just the head is warped, and yes it overheated because the guy never checked his coolant, he went on the freeway and yea.....

It can be heat-straightened. Check with Heads Up! in Auburn. Runs around $500 and that includes new valve guides.

I would still pull some bearing caps to see if the journals are scored.

You're also going to need to Timesert the block. That's mandatory.

I have a nice clean freshly refurbed cylinder head (NOT overheated) pulled from 2003 530i for sale.

Came from an engine that sucked in a DISA valve and put a hole straight through piston #2. Originally had 2 small dings on cylinder 2 that were smoothed out by the machine shop. I actually have it listed on eBay with a bunch of pictures.

Cleaned, checked, decked and with new valve seals by a local trusted machine shop.

PM me if you'r interested. Asking $350 for it.

Its a conical thread replacement system. You will have to drill out your existing head bolt threads and replace with the Timeserts. There is a kit specifically for aluminum BMW blocks you can buy off Amazon.

You will need to install them in the block because once you overheat a M54 the head bolt threads will strip when you go to install the cylinder head.
