I was talking to FredK, I'll just ask him in person when I get back from my current trip.

it could be done, but there are so many "while you're in there's" that I doubt it would end up being that cheap. it does depend on how much you pay for the motor. sometimes good deals come up, but mostly they're overpriced. there is also wide variability in how much it costs to do engine management, although I think it's much cheaper now than it was 5 years ago.

mine is a special case but realitsically my drivetrain will probably cost nearly that before I even get a motor.

Ah yes, those "while i'm int there" moments can get out of hand.
Agreed 100% on all the options that are evolving daily on these swaps.

I have a spreadsheet of parts and prices and it's always a work in progress. I've added and eliminated a lot of stuff. but it always seems to go the wrong way - up. :p

Haha, yeah, I had a spreadsheet to keep track of costs. Then after a while, I stopped keeping track. Haha.

The total installed cost might be around your guess of $6.8K, including essential maintenance parts like a new radiator, clutch kit, oil cooler, rod bearings, ARP rod bolts, ZF transmission, and things like that, if you can find an engine for around $3500 or so.

The package deal that 240zs30 has is very attractive because it includes a pricey pre-modified S54 oil pan and front subframe, which in all honestly I'd prefer because of what I think would afford better oil control than the baffled E34 pan I have.

if you are still looking Nando, I am selling my S54. Low miles and the rod bearing recall was completed on it. Let me know maybe we can work something out.
