Quick sound clip of my S54 E30 M3

Here's a quick sound clip of my s54 e30 m3. Car is running pretty rich right now, still need to adjust the tune for our CSL style airbox. Either way, I'm extremely happy with my exhaust set-up and how intoxicating the airbox sounds! :D

    Road videos coming soon!

Our (Castro Motorsport) CSL style airbox. Nto really a CSL, but it is made from fiberglass, makes similar sound, and looks similar.

Not a bad looking box. Do you happen to have a dyno sheet of before and after the box?

Not on my car no. The peak hp numbers can easily be achieved with the factory plenum and a proper intake. However, the torque numbers we made on our s54 e36 blow everyone out of the water.

Here are the dyno graphs from Shafique's s54 e36:

          317whp/275wtq!!!

Not being able to fit the larger plenum is the one downside in moving my motor back! :-(

The torque numbers are in fairy land but nevertheless the S54 is still an awesome engine

Is it just fate that this was posted up on my Birthday? July 30th? Been thinking of S54ing my E36 for a few months now and I think I should just do it....

E46 M3s in Australia are still worth 35k one bad ones....

Normally you would assume 10-15% losses for chassis dyno and this would mean a 3246cc (198CI) engine is producing 305-320lb-ft of torque at the crank depending on what % you used. I am assuming the engine has not been bored or stroked.

                              The BMEP for this is 150.8 x 305lbft/198ci = ~230psi (10% losses) or ~240psi (15% losses)

This is very optimistic when you consider that the M3 CSL “only” achieves 273lb-ft from 3.246L = 208psi and the 125hp/L GT3 RS4.0 which makes 339 lb·ft from 4L = 209psi and these are two of the most developed 4V N/A engines around.

What it means is that the physics shows the lb-ft/Liter is too high to be realistic and if you want that amount of torque you need more cubic inches. So the dyno numbers don’t actually mean much.

That is not to say there hasn't been a good improvement
