Okay so I am planning and saving for this swap on a 318iS and I hear of people who get a custom front subframe and im wanting to know if there is someone who makes them because i cant find them. for now that's the only hiccup i have.

TinyT modifies them as well as the oil pans, there are several threads about it. -
TinyT does them and they are a thing of beauty. I just posted photos of mine that I just got from him in my project thread.Comment

Awesome thank you. Now what exhaust manifold would fit this swap would this engine stock exhaust manifold fit ( ill have to smog it and i ll need all the smog BS for CA and i do not want to do an engine swap back to the M20 ) and what performance Exhaust manifolds fit. I would like to get active autowerk or maybe even super sprint just not sure if it would fit.
Also i checked with a smog shop here they said as long as it has the smog equipment in there and such i can do this. I just need to pay some guy to say ok its ok to smog i guess. I sometimes hate this state.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)

it's possible to make it pass smog except maybe visual for the headers. you'll need to run the rear O2s to get the ready state codes, but they don't have to do anything else. then you need to have some things tweaked in the DME so it'll work without the stock cats.
the rear O2s can also just be deleted and the MIL disabled, but that probably won't pass a plug in check.Comment

Man I'm so glad I live in a no-inspection state. Makes this swap much more do-able.

This state seriously hates older cars and they love there BS smog. I say if it spits out lower emissions than the regulations say then it passes F this states smog laws!!!! :hitler:

I dont have to pass emissions or inspection at all. Live in Tucson but its registered at my parents house in a smaller city with no emissions....Comment

I don't get it. We have to pass emissions here but all they do is look underneath the car with a mirror and put a sniffer up the tail pipe, unless the car is '96 or newer. I wouldn't tell the inspection people that you did anything to the car. As far as they know its the original engine the car came with. Since the car is older than '96 they shouldn't be hooking anything up to the OBD2 port. I wouldn't let them know it has one. I don't know the laws in your state, but legally you'd think it would only have to meet the requirements of its model year.Comment
