    wiring help again...

    Hi Gang,

i am sort of stuck on my swap for no other reason than I can't trace these wires and the TIS and now WDS seems to be of little help. I am trying to get them to work on my Windows 7 machine and they are not fully functional but I digress.

    02 sensor arrangement

I am only using the 2 pre cat 02 sensors and a 3rd WB in the race car. My engine didn't come with any. I ordered 2 used sensors from a seller and wanted to confirm they are correct. From the front of the car to the back there are 2 plugs labeled "A" (not pictured at far right), "B" , another "A" and a "C". At first glance I would assume that the front 2 plugs "A" and "B" would be the pre-cat ones but the seller sent me an "A" and a "C" I am thinking this is worng?

Second question does anyone know the function of that plug?

    Vacuum Connections

Am I correct that the one in the upper right goes to the pan?
What about the other one at the bottom? I have deleted the booster line coming off the vacuum manofold. Can I connect the piece in the picture to the intake plenum or just cap it off?

    2 prong plugs

Ok this one is baffling me. Andrew had mentioned before that the green/white and blue/yellow connector is the back up, what then is the other plug for? These are tee-d off of the same harness.

thanks again, I need to finish the last bits and get this thing finished. I will post some pics of the swap and a few details such as the fuel regulator location etc when I get a chance.

    Thanks again.

      Hi Bimmertc,

This is an 2005 e46 m3 cabrio harness.

What do you suggest to deal with the tank venting valve? Can I delete it? Keep it and vent to atmosphere? This is a race car with a fuel safe cell.

      Thanks for all the help!

I believe the blue and brown is the EGT. The one you have marked "oil pan" is the oil pan connection for the intake box. Not sure on the others.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I am pretty sure the Grey/Grey-blue and Green-white / Blue - White go to the transmission. Perhaps there are 2 switches on the 6 speed trans.

Thanks for all the help, the car is going for exhaust work next week.

Usually the O2 sensor connectors are numbered like "pre-1" "post-2" etc. But if they're not I'd either take a multimeter and test for continuity with the signal to the ECU on the X60002 connector or plug a couple of them up and start the engine and plug a OBD2 reader in and see which one is giving a signal.

I believe that upper vac connector plugs into the air box and then there's one on the airbox that goes to the oil pan via the dipstick tube. You'll have to make a slanted T (Y) onto your dipstick tube for the crankcase oil to drip into. My friend cut a hole in the tube and attached a small piece of copper pipe onto it with solder. Stick the hose that comes off your charcoal canister into the lower one in the pic. The original hose will slide right in. It doesn't need a clamp or anything since it's sucking.

That other plug in your pic with the O2 sensor connectors is the connector for the exhaust temperature sensor. I think I have an extra one if you need it.

                  Hi Guys,

I have an ecu that deletes the EWS , DCS etc. So I am using:

                  Pin Signal Description
                  1 +12V Ignition(in run or start)
                  4 CGND Chassis ground
                  5 SGND Signal ground
7 ISO 9141-2 K-LINE engine (ISO-9141 and ISO-14230), automatic transmission diagnostic (in some models)
8 ISO 9141-2 K-LINE IKE/KOMBI, ABS, ABS/ASR, ABS/ABD, ESP, DSC, Airbag and other electronic equipment
                  9 TD/RPM Engine rotation speed
                  16 +12v Battery power

Wiring up the OBD port tonight. Pins 4 and 5 are chassis and Signal ground respectively.

What exactly is a signal ground? Do these need to be wired separately?

Can someone who runs the OBD port chime in?

                  Thanks

                      thanks to all

Can is being trailered to the exhaust shop today. Really happy with how things turned out. I have tripple checked all wiring and connections and will soon be firing up.

This website helped a great deal, excellent insight and knowledge here.

Never really noticed or cared on a race car.

                          Exhaust work is almost done:
