S54 with entire E46 trans/Clutch DME wiring pull the trigger?

I am still pretty new to this forum and I have been searching a ton, probably to much because every time I read something I change my mind on what I want to do. My original goal was always to put an S52 in an E30 for as long as I can remember.

Then I stumbled on to this forum and began thinking about an S54, back in the day when I first started looking they were too expensive and seemed way to complicated. Now reading these threads while still complicated it seems way better then 5 years ago.

I finally have the car sitting in a garage to work on and in the middle of sourcing S52 engine and trans I found a nice setup for an S54 with the 6speed trans, clutch, DME and wiring.

I am thinking of pulling the trigger here, I am not looking for a list of other parts I need to make this swap, I will find and research that during the actual build, but I wanted to know if is there one main thing I am missing from this group listed that would cause me issues with the swap if I dont have it.

how much? what year? how many miles?

you still need to modify the harness to fit the E30. the E46 harness is a bit short and requires some work but it can be done. It sounds like you'd only be missing the gas pedal and of course all the other E30 specific swap bits.

it also probably helps that you don't have to send the DME to Germany for a $3000 flash because some members here can do it. *cough* :p

Haha I have been reading your threads :)

2004 72k miles they want $6900 for everything. May be able to negotiate that. Does that sound fair?

I would definitely talk them down but it's a 2004 which is good and the miles aren't bad. Sometimes you'll see them on EBAY with no accessories and half the motor missing for $4500.. those guys are on crack!

I think "market price" on an engine, wiring harness, and DME is around $3500 - 3800. A G420 trans is worth what, $1600?

It's not a bargain, but it's nice that it's all together.

The complexity hasn't really been reduced much at all, but nando is right in that the flash is now affordable. There's a lot more people who have documented the swap, like Jb325is, WannaBe30, Jink, and Andrew325is, so there are people that can help you sort things out if you run up against a wall.

Thanks! Ended up buying a different set, Motor, Trans, ECU from a member on here for much less. The engine was a bit older at an 02, but it was also $3k cheaper for the set.

              Let the madness begin!
