    front tires not spinning

I drove the iX up to Tahoe today, and I hit a ridiculous mound of snow when I was driving, I felt it hit the underside of the car, but didn't think too much of it.

I was trying to get up my driveway, which I normally never have a problem with, but my front tires are not spinning at all. I have a horrible feeling that when I hit the mound, it did something to the awd tranny.
I haven't had a chance to get underneath the car to look at it, but does anyone have any advice before I get it looked at?

i drove up the same driveway in the same conditions, and the car seemed fine, no tire spin at all on any of the wheels, which was a lot different than the time where i was just spraying snow back with my two rear tires.

has anyone had an incident in which the awd tranny was overloaded or something like that and didn't work for a little bit?

you should do a jack test. Was it making a crazy winding noise when only the rear wheels were spinning?

no it wasn't. just the front tires weren't spinning, and i was digging ruts with the back tires.
          everything else seemed normal.

either your VC is dead or something in the front is stripped/disconnected. If it's not making noise (stripped front DS) and the jack test shows a good VC, make sure your front driveshafts are both inserted fully into the diff.

a burned out center VC will usually make the rears spin first, since most of the torque is going to them they're easier to break free. The car still retains AWD as long as all 4 wheels have equal traction, but if one wheel loses grip all the torque will go there.

My ~275k VC finally went out last fall, and it really wasn't that bad in the snow as long as I didn't have a lead foot. Not quite the BMW-snowmobile I was used too, but still safe with snow tires.
