    2 tires or 4 tires?

I'm buying new tires for my iX. I really only need the back tires since those are bald, whereas the fronts have a good amount of tread left.

I know ideally it is best to have all 4 tires changed at the same time, but right now I don't know if finances can handle it.

Is it that bad to only change two tires, and have two different tread patterns on the AWD system?

The fronts would be Potenzas and the backs are going to be Continentals fwiw.

4 is better than 2. 2 is better than none.

Its really no biggie, just make sure that the rear tires are always the best tires.

if they are within about 2% you'll be fine

more than that and you risk damage to the VC.

However, do NOT mix different tread patterns, or brands. that is really asking for trouble on an ix. Different brands aren't even neccesarily the exact same size. If you are only doing two, you must replace them with the exact same tires that you have on the front.

Do all four, and keep the two fronts as spares. If this option is open.

This is what I was thinking, but I don't own an IX.

You don't want anything spinning at a slightly different speed when driving.

in an all wheel drive car in is recommended that you change all tires, or have the same exact tread pattern and no more then 3/32nds of tread depth difference between all the tires... It sucks I know....
