        Because the fluid gets hot...

Euro s50's and s54's will boil the fluid sometimes when tracking the car.

but why ix's? I realize why a car would have a cooler.

              only early ones

if it's leaking/in bad shape (likely, the one on my parts car is nearly rusted through) remove it. You don't need it. It was another excersize in overengineering, bmw did it all the time (fuel pulse damper, fuel cooler, etc) and later deleted it when they realized the cost/benefit wasn't worth it.

              ix's aren't er0h M3's, either.

my 89 does not have this.

my 88 does. is the 88 a specific steering rack? i should have looked at it more extensively. a lot of shit in the way though. these lines are the only rusty thing on the car.

                      i deleted my PS. win.

my 89 does not have this. i think 88s came standard with many things that later models were sold with as "options" like sport seats and all that.
