    quick question about 325ix

hey do you guys know if its hard to convert an automation 325ix to manual trans? idk if this question was asked before.
can you just used a normal all wheel drive manual trans? or there is drive shaft problems and stuff?

    thanks for all the help

swap transmissions. install pilot bearing, clutch, pedals, MC, slave. modify wiring to bypass automatic start wiring, hook up reverse switch. re-use all the original driveshafts and mounts.

it's a little more detailed of course but that's the basics. you need an ix-specific transmission and a manual transfercase.

not without swapping the front half of the automatic case to the front half of a manual case.

            yep!

also- the ix shifter parts are ix-only, but those can be bought new for not all that much. you can use a Z3 1.9l shift lever.

not sure but it is a devorced transfercase that looks like its held to the transmission by 4 bolts so it might work... depends how long the manual trans is vs. the auto trans

the auto transfercase doesn't bolt up the same. I already said everything that needs to be said about that. :)

buy the appropiate pedals for your yr E30. There are airbag & non-airbag specific ones. Nando pointed out everything you need.

Random question, why are airbag clutch pedals plastic vs. the non-airbag metal pedals?

remove the steering wheel and replace it with a non-airbag version. doesn't really have much to do with 5 speed swaps though. :p
