Just a little to add, all the parts are exactly the same, except the input shaft from the transmission and the front half of the case. All gears and bearings inside are the same... Thanks nando for the airbag situation lol

Is there a writeup on how this auto->manual = front case/input shaft swap is done?

I am about to attempt a 5spd swap and have a good auto VC and a blown manual VC. Would like to swap the good VC into the manual transfer case.
      Any help would be appreciated!

also- the ix shifter parts are ix-only, but those can be bought new for not all that much. you can use a Z3 1.9l shift lever.
Doh, I just bought a 'regular' shifter assembly!

If the ix shifter parts are ix-only, is there any way one can modify a regular shifter assembly to work?

also, take out the orange computer under the dash on the driver side. that way you won't have to look at the red abs light on your dash.

you shudda seen me when i swapped from airbag to non-airbag. I started just unplugging anything remotely orange-looking until that light went out. Haven't had any adverse affect since, so i guess i unplugged all the right things? lol
