    325ix s50 swap

good idea or bad for an IX? let me know if anyone has done this and what their experience has been like after the initial swap.

Would be sweet. Just met a local guy with an M50 swapped iX, was rad. Good luck sorting out the oil pan

oil pan is the least issue... brake booster clearance is a bigger problem. and if you use the M20 oil pan, you're still stuck with the weaker E30 front diff. You can use E34 ix parts, but they have problems of their own. E46 parts are a no-go. E53 3.0 might work but you'd need the transfercase too.. etc. etc.

there's way more on this in the ix section on E30tech. Needless to say, it's not simple and there are big problems to solve. The frankenpan is the easiest but it has some pretty big drawbacks. I can't see this being worth it at all to do an M50.. ugh. I'd rather shoot myself in the head than think about it.

I looked into this a few times and i personly decided it wasn't worth it, and there's never any clear answers about what works or not because only a few people actually have completed the swap. I've decided to stroke the spare M20 when mine blows haha

here is some info in this thread. start around page nine. its mostly speculation and bullshit before that. i think the only real problem with e34ix parts is finding them. especially the axles.

nando, i see you have been doing your homework. i'm impressed.

levent: are you doing the frankenpan?

There's a guy locally who has an m52 swapped into an ix, frankenpan steez. Engine is clocked closer to vertical for transfer case angle. Honestly I don't remember what he did about the booster.

Ive got one in the works, unfortunately the engine i picked has given me issues unrelated to the IX swap, so the car has yet to be driven, but it is fully built

*note, pan and oil pickup were designed and built on a scrap 'mockup' block.

One of the other less mentioned issues...

and no, i did not forget about closing the hood :D

it's not because of the transfercase. it's because of the M20 oil pan - and everything else has to match, but the oil pan really sets the angle because the diff is mounted to it.

it's a bummer you haven't been able to drive it yet though!
