325iX making weird ticking noise when driving

Hey there, just bought an 1989 325ix, automatic trans. However, when i am driving, usually at slow speeds, it makes a small ticking sound, somewhat louder when turning. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the car. When in park, the engine runs clean, no smoke, no weird sounds. It is is starting to bug me more and more. The guy i bought it off told me it was the front driveshafts and was a pretty easy fix. This said, is it? What would I need and how much would it cost to fix?

Additionally, the odometer says it has about 295xxx km. However, he told me that it really only has 195xxx km. Apparently the odometer broke so they replaced it with this one, what are your thoughts?

About the car: BMW 325ix E30. Zinnoberrot red, 4 door, cloth interior with heated seats, AC, automatic trans. Top end rebuilt with lots of new parts including head gasket, timing belt, new valves, valve seals, camshaft, rocker arms, fuel filter, distributor cap, spark plugs, and water pump. Brand new breaks all around with new disks. 17" black rims with new tires, lowered on h&r springs.

Does the ticking noise happen more when you're turning - if so, it's most likely a CV joint. Checkout Napa for replacement axles at a good price. Are your axle boots torn?

The ticking noise does seem to be a bit more noticeable when turning, however, it still does make the sound when in a straight line.. Only at slow speeds though, i notice it mostly when cruising through a parking lot with the window down or through residential areas.

Any torn boots? I would suspect CV joint....

ticking or clicking? if its clicking, its your joints/axle.

I'd try rebooting them first. clean really well with brake cleaner, let them dry, fill with grease and put the boots on. if they quiet down they'll probably be ok.

new boots are under $20 each (you need 4), new axles are highly correlated with gold..
