IX Pre Part Out Drive Train Tests

A friend of mine will be parting out an IX but it is still roadworthy so I told him he should video a jack test while he can.

What other IX specific tests/verifications should he do to prove the condition of the drive train before he starts taking it apart ?

And yes, I may be able to offer parts when available so feel free to express your interest but please do not ask me how much or what kind of shape anything is in since at this point I dont know any more than you do :-)

really, the jack test is kind of stupid. just jack up one of the front wheels and try to spin it. if it spins free, the tc is bad, if it will just barely spin with great difficulty, it is good. you don't even need to start the engine or drive the car.

I thought the jack test was for the VC (shows you what I know about IX's) ?

Other than the obvious IX drive train parts what other mechanicals would be worth saving. I believe the strut housing and CA's are IX specific. Anything else ?

the engine, transmission, driveshafts, diffs. wheels, front axles, subframes, rear brake rotors, strut housings, control arms, rear hubs......

you can just do what i mentioned above. it accomplishes exactly what the "jack test" does with no hassle or compromise of safety.

what color and condition is the carpet? looking for anthracite.

I just got clarification on this and it seems that...please dont shoot the messenger...there was no accident but owner wants it converted to 2WD...I know I know !!

My understanding then of what will be available will be the trans, TC, drive shaft (?), oil pan, front half shafts, hubs, struts and CA's. Anything I missed ?

I know this makes no sense but I was asked what the interest would be in the parts.

unless something is wrong with the front end (driveshaft not inserted all the way, stripped splines, broken front diff) then the jack test is the only way

I don't see how it's dangerous - I use a big floor jack in my garage. only have to let the clutch out and see if it moves right away. not like you have to go far or very fast. :)

I need a good TC and maybe the left front half shaft.

no, it is NOT the only way. i'm sure you probably have a good tc in your car. try my method above. you will see it is all you need to do. since the front diff is open, you can actually feel the viciousness of the fluid(or lack thereof) in the tc by turning one front tire.

as far as safety is concerned, i suppose that is a matter of opinion. however, i am pretty sure any manufacturer of a floor jack would more than frown on someone trying to drive a car with one of their models stuffed under the car. there is always a possibility of the wheels of the jack getting caught on something and the car slipping off.
