it has to be pressed in. so, you need to remove the transfercase, and take it to a shop who's competent.

I didn't mean that as an insult - somebody who's clueless can break off the ear of the transfercase. seen it happen before. that would really suck. :(

Are we talking transmission or ix transfer case? I'm confused. There are no mounts in a transmission that need to be pressed in or out.

I think thats why it was assumed he was talking about the transfer case.

ok here is the scoop ....you need to extract the mount as carefully as possible
the housing is aluminum and it can break if too much pressure is exerted on it
i advise reciprocating saw and cut it out . then youll need a pressing tool claw type
its very tricky .....lube the mount up and clean the sleeve well . slowly n slowly watch it .... stop if its goes in crooked
the tc must be removed also ...i know bmw made the special tool for all this but good luck finding it ....i used porsche tools from my shop ,,,,german is german ya know
one more thing ...if the TC is coming out you midas well rebuild or reseal that thing ....
best advice i can give you ..

the mount on the ix is built into the transfercase, not the transmission. it has to be pressed in.

does anybody know of any polyurethane, or upgraded inserts? ill be doing mine shortly, and was thinking perhaps i could make one, or use one of similar dimension and craft it to work with a sleeve, and bolt-through.. any thoughts?

the problem is the main bolt that holds the transmission threads into the bushing. so you'd have to recreate that somehow. it also has a "key" that interfaces with the transmission bracket.

another way would be to fill in the voids with some sort of polyurethane.
