    1.9l z3

Just a quick question. For replacing the 325iX shifter the only practical option appears to be the 1.9L Z3 shifter.

I was wonder if when doing this swap do you need to bend the selector rod of clearance?

i did this mod on my IX and didnt have to bend anything, just replace all the bushings, shims and coupler. works great

Can you do it with the transmission in the car?

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Sure but not with the transfercase there, which is what i think you meant.

Regardless of tiny magical elf hands, is the transfer case really in the way? According to this writeup all you need to do is remove the circlips on the ends of the selector rod. I think you could get the passenger side pretty easily

Yes, its directly under the shifter. Its not possible, there is simply not enough room.

That article was not written for an ix..

              thanks for the responses.

Couple more questions. Since you have to pull the transfer case what else should I try to do? I'm thinking all the guibos?

Also, am I missing anything on this?

              Z3 Shift Lever
              Front Shift Carrier Bushing
              Rear Shift Carrier Bushing
              Locking Pin
              Shift Tower Bushing
              Shift Rod Circlip x2
              Bushing Washers x4
              Dowel Pin
              Rubber Buffer
              Shift Rod Joint
              Joint Clip

              Thanks in advance
