So i came across a artical that lays out all the maintenance for the ix can these be confirmed? I understand the pricing for the parts in this article have more than likely changed.
The drive train on the iX appears to be pretty bulletproof -- no inherent problems. Of course, fluid changes are important every 36K miles -- ATF in the transfer case and hypoid SAE90 (GL-5) gear oil in the front and rear differential. The viscous coupling units do not require any service. The transfer case only holds about 1.5 pint of ATF, so be sure to check the fluid regularly. The transfer case on an automatic can leak into the transmission with no visible sign of a leak.
-The weak link on the iX drivetrain seems to be the splines on the front driveshaft which mate with the chain-driven gear in the transfer case. These splines have stripped on several iXes which are owned by members in the iX Registry (now with about 1100+ members.) Apparently, the moly grease which lubricates these splines dries out or becomes contaminated with water and allows the splines to wear down. The only way to check the condition of the grease is to remove the front driveshaft (not a complicated procedure and is covered in one of the Registry newsletters.) If the splines strip, the front driveshaft must be replaced. If the female mating gear is ruined, the transfer case will need to be removed and the gear replaced.
-Owners are reporting that outer ball joints on the iX seem to need replacement at 120K-150K miles. Replacement ball joints are available (Zygmunt Motors, 215-348-3121) which can be pressed into the lower arms at a cost of about $40 each. BMW only sells the whole assembly lower arm assembly at a cost of $250-350 for parts for each side. Bekkers (800-624-5410) sells the arm assembly for around $180.
-Another potential problem is one that applies to E30 models with the M20 engine -- head bolts which break, causing oil leaks or worse. This is easily cured by replacing the original hex-head head bolts with newer torx-style head bolts available from BMW for around $40. These can be replaced one at a time, torquing each bolt first to 22 ft.lb, then rotating it through 90 degrees, then rotating it though 90 degrees a second time for a total of 180 degrees. There is also a non-BMW head bolt available (Raceware, 800-468-1977) which can be retorqued after installation, but a set of these cost around $190.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)

So I've been thinking that I'd like to do with this car and here are my plans.
First get it on the road.
Any and all maintenance
Replace all of the bushings and mounts
Install the upgraded front drive shaft spline
Install arcasylum steering coupler
Touch up all the chips in the paint and repair any dents
Either Bosch sport Set up or go for the gusto and get ground controls
Upgraded sway bars
Strut braces
Kopi alpina wheels
UUC bbk
Stronger clutch set up
Kamotors turbo set up
And I'm going to take a look into a itb system like I've always wanted.
And how do you think a m3poiler would look on this car? It currently has the lip spoiler it's cool but I do like the m3 spoiler.
Let me know your thoughts and advice.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)

no not yet lol my car nettles Im parting out till all i got are the subframes and the body. I dont know the cars attitude yet.
I do need to see about if a auto body shop can repair the valance. The fog light inserts are bent. I do plan on dropping a 5 speed in the car but i will be waiting till the Auto blows up. That gives me time to enjoy the car and save for the transmission and good clutch parts. I do already have the Clutch master and the pedals for the car. Nettles is donating her 5 speed stuff to the iX. I can always get another set of peddles at the yard. Cause Nettles is getting a 5 speed for the M30 i dont need the transmission anymore. Im pulling the parts off Nettles tomorrow along with the master cylinder.Last edited by Bimmer_man; 04-27-2014, 07:52 PM.Float like a cadillac sting like a Bimmer!:)
