    crap

well i guess my day had to come , was rear ended in my IX on tues afternoon and it think i got off pretty light considering how hard the impact was ,SUV that hit me decided to go even though stoplight was still red ! (pushed bumper in ,collapsed bumper shock ,bent in the rear panel and broke R taillight lens ,very slight tweak to frame member inside trunk floor with seam pulled apart ) body shop estimate is at $2300 to fix so im hoping it wont get totalled ,looked at the NADA for 89 IX and it lists $4000 low retail, $5950 average retail, and $8250 high retail . i consider mine above average as it rust free and very clean all round with lots of work done to it .

anyway i have a few comparable's that i had saved off Ebay just for this reason but they are from the last few years , cant find any local sales that are compareable's right now so if anybody has any that they know of that are recent would like to have them in case it comes do to it in the end with the insurace company

If they think yours isn't above average just by being rust free, I'll snap some pictures of mine for a nice comparison...

thanks all that have replied hopefully it wont come down to a battle ,was told by bodyshop that Progressive is one of the Insurance Co. least likely to total a car (usually will go as high as 80% value for claim)

this one just popped up on Ebay so will watch and print out sale price (half the mileage mine has but an Auto 4dr which is less desireable) but looks in the same condition

well update is that it is not considered a "total" and will be fixed next week, i think my comp's and talking to the adjuster when she came out to body shop (which is right next door to our shop ) helped make her realize how rare they are in a rust free condition and how hard it would be to find good comparable's . she took into account recent work and mods done to car to help value too.

good question ,i didnt think to ask ,just was haapy when she called to tell me it wasnt going to be totaled and would be fixed . will try to ask the adjuster if i talk to her again. the estimate was $1100 from her and $2300 from body shop when they did original estimate for me so there might still be some negotiating (adjuster did mention her estimate didnt really include any frame straightening work as it was hard to tell what might be needed until parts are fully removed for further inspection) so she anticipates it will be higher too.

got the car back from body shop on monday all fixed up with new bumper too as old one was cracked from hit as well and all new trim on it . looks as good as new now . hopefully this is my (my turn) moment for the next ten yrs plus and the car will stay accident free now.
adjuster said she valued it at $3950 which it thought was low but dont care now cause they stepped up and fixed it and didnt total ,so im happy.
                  repair bill was $2640
