IX exhaust question

I'm about to buy a full custom exhaust headers back for a normal 325i and was wondering if it with fit the IX. Or what the differences are

the catback and headers will but the center portion will not.

the main difference is the big transfercase right in the middle of the car. :p

The shop I brought mine too basically cut the cat tubes off and slipped some sleeves over both ends with some U-clamps. ...in hindsight I probably could have done it myself. I used an O2 sensor from an E34. Unfortunately the sensor is not reading both sides but I don't think that's a huge issue.

IMO, u-clamps are not the way to go. Get v-bands or stock style joints.

I bought the car like this. I haven't dyno'd it, so I have no idea what lengthening the secondary pipes like that does to the powerband.

That transfer case is a bitch to work around, heres a diagram to help you see what your working with. You might be able to get around it with a pipe bender or a extension piece. Good luck, I'll be doing this in the future sometime.

The "collector" includes the pipe after the merge. The diameter and length of the collector is part of the header design and can have an enormous impact on how the engine performs.

To the left of the photo I posted, the two secondaries merge, go through a crappy aftermarket single-in/single-out catalyst, then split again (they're not really secondaries at that point, of course) and hook up to the stock cat-back.
