May have to rebuild my transmission

So I've been doing research on this noise coming from m uh transmission. When in neutral or downshift I hear a sand grinding noise. From what I've read it's either the throw out bearing or the layshaft bearing. Just changed the oil and it was black as night. I know that's not a good sign at all. There was some debris I attributed it to that it didn't like going into reverse. After the oil change it dose go into reverse easier.

So I'm thinking worst case scenario. So my question is this, are the internals of a regular e30 transmission the same apart from the output shaft to the transfer case. Please let me know anyone who knows. Please no guessing I don't want to wast money on a regular transmission if it won't work.

I'm trying to go that route cause on the west coast manual ix cars are hard to find even harder to find manual transmissions or parting ix manual cars.

The only different part is the rear case... but the shafts and shift mechanism are all retained in the rear case, so swapping rear cases is basically a complete disassembly of the transmission.

^That's what i thought too, but I just bought a rebuilt transmission for my ix by guten parts(built by drive-gear) and I heard there are a few difference with the gears, maybe different ratios? Anyway I know your on the other side of the states but give guten parts a call.

yeah should be possible, would also be a good time to run through the entire driveline and replace and check over everything

Yeah I'll be planning on that. Cause so far the fluids don't tell a good story. When I get home I'll post a pic of the fluid that came out. To sum it up it looked like a engine oil change.
