    Pics of OE steel wheels?

So earlier today I swapped on my newly straightened and powder coated 15"basketweaves. Man they are pretty again.

I asked the shop to split my winter tires from my winter wheels for they are a bit rusty and I wanted to clean them up or replace.

In looking at the markings on the rim, I noticed that they are 51/2Jx14H2 ET35, which I think are stock for non-IX E30s. The IX size is 6Jx14 ET47.

I've had these rims for a number of years, so clearly they work. But if I were to replace with new, would I want to go with the ET47 of the stock IX wheel? That would set the wheel 12mm deeper into the wheel well. Would that actually look better? That sounds like they may look lost in the well.

Thoughts? Anyone have pics of the IX stock steel rims? If I can have either, which would work better?

Thanks. That is sort of what I am thinking too. If the ET35 fit, for the same price-ish, I should get those.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Thanks. Are those the ET47 or ET35?

Do you mind if I ask you how much you paid to have them straightened and powder coated?

Not at all. I shipped them off to a place in Chicago, rimrepaircenter.com. It was like $200 per wheel for straightening and powder... but not all needed both, so some just needed powder, which was $130. They have lots of info and pricing on website.

I had no relationship with them before, but would definitely send work back to them. I fit 5 basketweave 15" rims in a FedEx golfbag box, and shipped there for ~$60. They shipped individually back at like $130 total or something. Certainly not cheep, but I wanted the OE wheels and now they are like new.

They assessed which wheel needed what, and then called me with the exact price. Turned it around in about a week, IIRC.

I couldn't find any places near me that weren't just a guy with a torch and a hammer... so I just didn't trust them with my tires. I am a little obsessive about my ix, and plan to keep it a long, long time, so really it was worth it... now if my wife would stay off the damn curbs!

Great! Thanks for the info. Yeah, that's about the amount I would guess it would cost. Mine are in pretty bad shape though. I'm not sure it would be worth it.

... in my mind, the worse shape they are in the MORE worth it it is! I had one that only had a bit of a curb rash. THAT one was not really worth it.

If you want your rims to look damn good again, you can... you could also use that money to get non-OE rims, some of which are pretty damn nice too.
