    First ix

To make a long story short, my 13 yr old son really wanted my wife's 92' E36 as his first car. I know, 13 seems a little early, but you can drive with a learner's permit at age 14 in Alaska. After explaining to him that a rear wheel drive car in Alaska is a horrible choice for a first car, we started causally looking for something else. Low and behold within a few weeks, we found a 1989 325ix for sale about 100 miles from home(this is practically next door in Alaska). The car had been sitting in a shop for 10 yrs. We trailered the car home about 11 months ago and have been working on it off and on since. Its our first experience with an ix and it did not take long to really start to like this car. What an awesome machine, way ahead of its time! We have been using this forum for trouble shooting and repairs so we decided that we should probably join and share a little of our ix story if anyone is interested. I have documented most of the repairs because we home school our kids and this car is one of my son's long term school projects.

Sounds cool, you should make a built thread!
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Its been fun but I'm not sure it would qualify for a build thread. Its more like a let's see if we can get it running thread. trying to load a few pictures now but its kicking my butt.

Great car to put your son in! I have never driven a car that was better in the snow!!!
BTW: I begged my dad for my first car when I was 11 - just make sure he still does his school work - LOL.

                      Update on first ix

So after a year of tinkering, my son showed off his home school project at the home school expo. He wrote a paper on the history of BMW, and paper about his ix. We also had a laptop with a slide show of the work we did on the car and a few of the parts that were replaced at his booth. We pulled the car up on the sidewalk and parked in front of the entrance to the VOTECH school where the expo was held. Needless to say, the project was a pretty big hit.

Where in AK are you guys? I used to live in Girdwood for some years around 2000-2004. That first pic looks like it could be on the Turnigan Arm somewhere. My real good friend (also e30 nut) lives in Bird still. Good luck on your project!
