    No. A worn VC will send all power to the axle with no traction. There's a subtle, but important difference.

      no. the front and rear are mechanically connected through the planetary gear set. the VC controls slip, torque isn't directly transferred through it.

      it doesn't send all power to the rear either! the only reason that happens on a slippery surface is the torque output is already biased towards the rear (via the planetary gear). On a surface with equal traction to all 4 wheels, all wheels get torque regardless of if the VC is working or not. In fact, you could remove the VC entirely and it would still drive all 4 wheels - but it would be an open differential.

        if you lifted a front wheel, you can be certain your transfer case vc is good but you will have no way of knowing if the rear diff is good.

          While both TC were on the ground side by side,I slid in the front drive shaft in the old one,and held the rear drive shaft output,ZERO resistance.... the one I got from a fellow r3v'er,has a lot of resistance (VC good)

          In fact,the old one was so bad,I can stick my fingers in front DS spline,and turn it and feel no resistance
