I just got one of these CAE adjustable DSSR's. Its a beautiful piece of gear and looks like it will last forever.
One concern though, the included selector rod joint has no play whatsoever. Its such a tight fit in the CAE rod fork - it will not pivot up/down on its pin except with huge force applied.
My question.... is the selector joint on the E30 meant to be like that? i.e tightly fitted at the gearbox end with no play?
I'm worried that the standard E30 shifter will also be tight at the other end, and this could end up being the 'hardest to shift' gearbox ever.
A digital vernier shows the gap between the dual shears on the CAE is 19.98-19.99mm. The CAE selector joint has a width of 19.97-19.98. So a perfect tight fit that will not pivot, even with lubrication.
I have an 89+ Genuine BMW selector joint here, and its width is 20.60mm, which means it cannot be used with this CAE rod. That's fine, because the CAE comes with its own, but as I said its tight, and what if the end of the OEM gearstick is also just above 20mm width?
Does anyone have an E30 shifter out and can measure the width of its connection?
