    Replace hubs without replacing bearings?

Hey guys, so I'm getting ready to make the jump to GC coils and have ordered a adjustable rear sub.. I got some studs from Motorsport hardware, basically the rear hub threads are not great thanks to stupid tech working on it when the PO still had it and I want to order some fresh hubs for these studs.

Anyone know if I can remove the hub without damaging the bearing? I replaced the bearings 20k ago and am already spending way to much on the car. LMK thanks...

Also with new hubs I've heard the axle splines don't exactly fit nicely because of a rough burr left on the female portion of the hub... Any advice on removing that before I install new hubs?

You have to remove the bearings when the hubs come off, and in my experience the bearings have separated irreparably, however if you are super careful you may be able to remove them and reinstall them without damaging them... you can get a pair for $60 though, so I don't really think it's worth your trouble...

I had trouble with my splines as well and I ended up using a wire brush and applying new grease, in the end though it just took a lot of hammering to get them fully seated.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll end up ruining the bearings. Not if you buy FAG. I may buy some for 60 a pair just in case. I've spent so much lately and I'm trying to leave something extra for bodywork.

Thanks for the insight on the hubs, I figured hitting it with a wire brush, I also have to get that $100 front bearing tool and whatever I need to remove the hub.

if you could somehow get the retaining clip out and heat up the housing, you might be able to get the bearing out without damaging it, but after doing 2 of them, its probably not feasible.

also, i cant speak for the rears but i ordered a new front hub and had absolutely no issue with the female splines, you could always throw it in a sand blaster and just hit the splines a little bit, not like theres any issue with these ones wearing out.

Yeah.. I just went ahead and ordered new FAG bearings and the FWD bearing kit to R&R them.

I also ordered all new tcase bearings because I'm rebuilding mine when the stroker goes in..

before you pull the tcase seals out, measure the installation depth

I did the front driveshaft seals without doing that and it hasn't leaked. I have a spare auto case that I picked up that I use for the rest. Thanks though.

Where did you get ix front hubs? I'm under the impression that the ix hubs are not the same as standard E30 hubs, but am I mistaken??

You can get them anywhere you can get BMW parts. The part #s can be found on realoem.com. Prepare to bend over - and take some lube with you, they will not be cheap.

Thank you. i didn't even think of going OEM on a car this old. I found them. Yes $$, but not devastatingly so.

$157 from local dealer after they matched another online price I found.
I'll look at Blunttech for future purchases.
                          Cheers.
