did the ix get an undertray? Has anyone found an aftermarket solution?

I think so. Mine has clips for it and I'm pretty sure there's a part # for it, but mine has never had one as long as I've owned it. -
Mine has a plastic guard under the engine, I think you are talking about that one?
I'm pretty sure it's ix specific.Comment

Yes, the plastic tray under the engine is definitely iX-specific.
If you're talking about a skid plate, the only ones I've ever seen have been homemade.Dave

It's interesting that RealOEM doesn't show the plastic tray, so I'm not even sure what the part number would be.
A lot of them have broken and fallen off over the years. Your best bet for finding one would probably be off a parts car somewhere that still has one.Dave

Part no: 51711965609
Realoem pictures the standard E30 undertray (I think) but when you search for the part no it's definitly only for the ix model.

True. But at least they're 8 easy screws. :)
I like having it there. I like to think it keeps deep snow, etc. from getting up in there. I'm not getting to the bottom of the engine that often. :)Dave

Thanks guys. Kershaw I saw your pictures on the facebook thread. Just seems a more work than worthwhile to do what you got. nice piece though!Comment

There is literally no point in a skid plate on a street ix because they don't suffer from an oil pan hanging below the subframe like the RWD version. Especially coupled with the fact that we can't lower our cars as much as they can.
And the OEM undertray is only going to protect against a little bit of road dirt anyway. You could take a large piece of plastic, cut it to the shape of the car with some half moons for the suspension on either side and make a much better version yourself.AWD > RWDComment

Agreed. Even on my car, which I believe is as low as an IX can realistically go (long term), a skid plate is pretty pointless.Comment
