I've tried all sorts of different brakes (hawk HPS, ugh). Obviously, race pads are in a different class, but I ended up going back to what worked - stock Pagid pads, ATE powerslot rotors - because everything seemed to suck compared to stock (pedal feel, initial bite, etc). I only got the ATE rotors because of how wet it often is here, otherwise solid rotors are fine. I have never liked ceramic pads.
If I do a track day (which hasn't happened since I've had kids, lol), I swap to a race pad. Racing on street pads is a waste of time and money - you'll just ruin your pads anyway, and obviously the performance isn't going to be very good so you'll have to go much slower. I never really had problems with race pads, all I really needed was better ducting.
Big brake kits (especially ones built from OEM components) are usually just much heavier without a lot of extra benefit. If i were going that route I'd go with something aftermarket (Massive), which at least is lighter and has cheaper consumables..
