    Props, man. I started to fiberglass an E46 center console a while back to get it to match up with the front E30 section and I got lazy and stopped halfway through. Not only is it time consuming work, but you have to have patience to do it.

    Can't have A.D.D. like me or you'll nev--ooh, shiny red ball!! :D

      I kinda did... I'm doing the pedal meter thing now. the FG overfender is on hold till I can find some daylight.

        dude, just came across this thread while a bit bored and first off... LOL to all the people who thought you were going to use the foam as fenders... (apparently reading is hard for some people). On the other hand, I just have to say mad props for having the gumption to do this. It is people like you who keep trying new things and new looks that keep these 20 year old cars interesting... keep it up man, can't wait to see the finished product.

          Thanks! I haven't had time to work on it since it gets like REALLY dark the moment I'm home from work (9-5er) so weekends are the only time I have on it. Even then I work on other cars and help my parents with their house. Fuck I have to rake leaves today... *sigh*

            I decided to add 2 more layers. The fiber glass matting seemed to be thicker so I did another layer of that but then I put the fiberglass cloth over that to make it semi smooth to make sanding easier. stupid moths and shit kept flying into it... Hopefully this is strong enough now. I don't feel like doing more layers.

            oh. also, i taped it back up then shoved a screw driver under the wheel arch to "pull" the fender out some more. Hopefully it looks ok. And hopefully painter's tape in between 2 layers of fiber glass is ok...

              Ok so I need to figure out something... The fiberglass was strong enough but wavy. I decided to try to fill it in with bondo but some parts were too warped. I decided to think about redoing the foam form. That didn't work out well.

              I took up the back side to see how smooth it was from the foam. I figured I could see how smooth it had to be to look right but alas, it was just as rough as the other side. Somehow, the only smooth parts were the parts where the FG cloth drooped. So even if I made a perfectly smooth, the FG would be rough. I need to figure out what i did wrong. I might also start on some side skirts since they are smaller.

                use bondo-glass as a thick filler, it will strengthen the fiberglass and get rid of some waves

                    I agree but the idea is to make a master mold and be able to quickly pop them out. if the mold is smooth but the FG I put in still comes out textured, making fenders will take a considerable amount of time and bondo. The filler will work on large areas but not on the subtle divets of the FG itself. Bondoing it smooth would work short term but would crack off easily, right?

                          Im not a auto-body fiberglass pro; I'm really a boat guy but do a lot of FG work. If you are getting that waviness, you are probably laying really thick glass with a lot of resin, what products are you using? You should layer it, start with something thin, that way it will lay nicely up against your mould. Personally, i would lay a layer of nondirectional mat first, it is really thin and would take a nice smooth shape. Then you can take it off an lay something thicker over that yo strengthen it. I hope this helps you?

                            a proper fiberglass roller (over a paint brush) would help to keep things smooth as well. Are you using one?

                              Nondirectional? you mean the matt stuff that pulls apart? That stuff made the biggest possible mess. But yes, I was laying down thick layers to try to get it to be rigid. Looking back on it, when I'm trying to make the outside the master, it probably wasn't a good idea.

                              I need to get one. I was using a flat spade (trowel? spackle thingy? whatever you call it). Seemed to work reasonably well.

                                Any movement on this? I have been thinking about doing similar over fenders (240 wide body style) I think if done correctly, it would kill the fender flares, at a decent price of course.
