just a bit of a professional suggestion. stop taping off the primer like that move the tape line up to the body style line, when you break the primer like that in the middle of the panel you create a n abrupt variation in thickness and it takes for ever to sand it flat again and it will show up in the finished product. other wise it seems like your doing a fine job, practice makes perfect.

      details detail details.

Out in the sun you see every single deep scratch. Some glazing putty and some more primer and sanding and she should be ready to paint.

are you planning on priming and blocking out the entire car before painting it?

maybe. You think its worth the extra 50$ in primer?

hell yes. an extra two coats of primer and a sanding block will hide a multitude of sins

there's a lot of chatter back and forth on this thread but check it out, ive dabbled in this now and then

              Nice work homie.
Priming the whole car and then blocking it out again will be well worth it..

make sure you give the primer enough time to cure completly. Some cheaper primers tend to "shrink" back which will show the scratches you thought were sanded out. You also might want to consider a sealer before you lay down the base and clear. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.

                    Thanks for the kind words.

Yep the whole thing is getting a coat of primer this weekend. Kind of exciting.

There is one last area, some rust where the liscene plate lights go. I can fix it pretty easily with the mig but can I swap out the shitty liscene plate lights and put something better?

I just want to know what other R3V'er have done. No need to re-invent the wheel, ( I hate rice and I hate cheap looking work).

Some progress this saturday as per suggested by the pro's.

Glazing putty is awsome, go buy some metal spatuals (small) for filling in holes and scratches. They are harder and you will use less and have to sand less.

                        Forgot the respirator :(

Is a guide coat really nessisary?

All the body work was done with a guide for sanding. Other than that it's pretty straight, all the previous primer was feathered. I'm just blocking it down with 800. Finished the hood tonight, it's feel and looks pretty good.

I'm not trying to argue with the FEZ. In fact I get the feeling that FEZ is a pro, and you NEVER argue with a pro. I'm just asking if it is nessisary.

Well, your paint job will come out as good as your prep. so if your already sanding and blocking the car out now. Why not spend the extra 2 minutes to run around the car to mist on some black paint? All the paint is going to do is let you know if you need to block more in that area. Then you know 100% for sure all the edges are smoothed out.
