Dave Vs Air Dam Part 2 (Finished)

So I decided to start work on reconstructing my air dam for the 2nd time using a piece from cdne30s air dam that he broke over the winter.

First I had to hack off the bit I made last year. So I got all my shit together:

And dremeled the old foam, bondo, fg piece off.

I kept it but its pretty wavy at the bottom (the rest is ok) but thats why I never painted it body color.

Next I used some good old ghetton ingunity to mate the new corner to the rest

Some metal "1001" uses straps and some nuts and bolts

Now Before you say "Dave that looks like shit"

I counter sunk the heads on the side you will see, I am going to bondo over them so you won't even know they are there.

Next I lined it all up (I fucked up the top hole thats why there is a washer in it now and it looks gross, I am going to have to buy a bigger bolt, washer, nut setup for that hole)

Next I attatched it from the back.

    and cut off any overlap.

So here it is now, done for today.

So how am I going to fill the gap? Easy, fiberglass over the back so that theres a base for body filler than fill it up, shouldnt be hard considering how much I made last year.

I have to adjust the middle strap and fix that big hole at the top before that though. Then I'll fix the other spots I fixed last year, prime, sand, sand, sand, then body color.

Oh as for any flex issues, these things are strong vertically, and the fiberglass will stiffen it horizontally. Fiberglass doesnt stick to plastic well, but will stick well enough to keep things stiff.

    Sold it.

Thanks, I know, since you are just turning in I will direct you to this link: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/420127/9

I put the fiberglass on today but the shitty weather is making it take forever to dry so I will resume and post pics on monday.

Nando, I refit it with the help of a friend and the gap got a bit smaller. The rest of the air dam I fixed last year held up pretty good to cracking.

I mean I am running a risk since it's on a corner but I think I should be ok I plan to fill as much of the area as I can with fiberglass so that the bondo is pretty thin. Since the glass is not there for structural reasons (I moved and added some more bracing) it should hold together alright especially when mounted. Time will tell.

I just wish someone would make a replica of these pieces already. Paying 150+ for one then a bunch to ship it isn't appealing for me.

        Sold it.

looks good, make sure to post pics when you're done.

So did you re-crack that thing? On your cardomain page I see pics of a fixed-up piece.

No, actually, in my car domain site I made the passenger side piece. Thats why it looks intact in those pics.

I was never really super happy with it and I could never paint it body color since it was not all that straight., so when this dude on max broke his air dam I got him to send me the pieces I am using now.

In the first pic in this thread you can see the piece I made, cut off.

                  Sold it.

Came out pretty well I say, the colors kinda off, and I should have used a polishing compound on the clear but hey... I have another one waiting to be done. ;)

Oh ya yes I did crack it a bit putting it on, doh!

                        Sold it.

Nice, throws the balance off on the car a bit though. Front=bulky, back=small. Any plans for a rear skirt? Looks nice either way though.
