Why you should never buy an aftermarket lip

I backed out of a driveway with a big curb this evening and it yanked my lip off - unfortunately, I had to move to allow traffic to pass and I ran over it -- twice.

Other than scratches on the bottom of it - it is unfazed. It was twisted up under the car when I stopped, but I got it free - tossed it in the trunk and headed home.

It is now back on the car.

meh. I've bottomed out my fake rieger lip, hasn't hurt it any (except for said scratches). it depends on how you mount it. of course if I plowed into a curb..

For the record - I didn't plow into a curb. It was when I backed out - the bottom of the lip caught on the rounded curb and was pulled loose.

Thats the bad thing about the factory lip....I've scraped my fiberglass one backing out and it would come off cus its not held on by factory clips

Actually, the good thing about the factory one is that it will pop off - the clips are designed that way.

Well, you can't really generalize about all aftermarket lips like that. I smashed my Eurostyle iS lip repeatedly last year, and it never showed any damage. I know one guy who ran his over something like 7 times before it finally fell apart.

I like my $72 shipped used IS lip. It gets damaged coming out of parking lots, but I can just spray to cover it up. Black doesn't show the scratches as much.

the weak link on the iS lip is the mounting ridge that locks to the clips. other than that it's pretty indestructable.

I ripped my lip off the car coming into my driveway the other day. No damage done at all. I also ripped the splitter off the lip, and the lip off the car all at once in one of my friends driveways :)

Let's drive fast and have fun.
