does anyone recommend a good way to pull or push out dents? i see a lot of products online such as suction cups and such but i'm wondering if anyone has had any success with any methods.
    thanks

If you can't get behind it to work (hammer) it out, a stud gun is the best way. If you've never done body work before, just keep in mind you can do more damage than good if you're not careful - it's easy to stretch the metal. Start at the edges of the dent & work it to the middle. A dozen light taps is better than one hard hit. Practice on a piece of scrap metal.

what type of hammer should i use?
and how should the metal react as i'm tapping it? should it pop out or is the metal going to bend with each hit?

I tried to take out a fender dent once and ended up cracking the paint. I would just find a local PDR guy who will work by the panel if you have multiple dents. These guys are trained and have specialized tools.

Body hammer is best, but any small hammer will do. A dolly (or a larger hammer) on the opposite side is (almost) always a good idea.
It's very rare that a dent will pop out. If it's one that will pop, you may be able to just use your hand to pop it out.
There are lots of tutorials on the web. It takes a book to fully explain how to work metal.

Does anyone have pics of the dents before they were removed by PDR?

I'm wondering just how bad a dent can be, to still be able to be fixed via PDR.

              Thanks!

I have seen a bad ass PDR guy remove a dent across a crease line on the deck lid of a new Chevy Malibu to the point you COULD NOT tell the dent was EVER there. He made a ton of money at it too he was that good.

PDR. Dent removal isn't like detailing paint. You CAN easily permanently mess things up. I'm a detailer and I'm all for teaching people how to detail by just telling them, but I won't touch a dent.

If the dent is bad enough, it stretched the metal and will likely take a lot more then PDR can provide.

Also, as far as using a hammer and dolly, I would not suggest it to someone who has never worked with the tools before. You can make things a lot worse very quickly.

What color is your car? If it's black or something else very dark, you can try an old trick that hot rod guys have been using for decades, I've talked to guys at car shows that swear by it.

Leave your car in an area where it will get direct sunlight ALL DAY, specifically on the panel that the dent is in. Toward the end of the day, before the sun starts to go down, begin to slowly and lightly rub a small chunk of dry ice around the dent. If the metal is hot enough, and the dent is not one that's too deep, it will literally pop itself back out from the temperature shock.

I read this method somewhere years ago, and have since asked both body shop guys and hot rod guys if it works, and most have told me that they have done it, and it works.
