    How to ID a Real OEM "IS" Lip

    how do i tell if an "IS" lip is a real oem part or a knock off?

    Pretty much all replicas are fiberglass where as the OEM iS lip is molded plastic. OEM will also have BMW markings on the back.

      Or just buy a new one from a reputable source and dont worry about a phony...

        Yeah I dont see the point in buying a replica IS lip when the price difference isnt that much. I figure either buy a $5 Volvo lip or buy the real deal IS lip from Tischer or somebody

            looking at a used one and wanted to make sure of what it really is

              Replicas are actually made out of very light plastic.
              Have you ever held a real IS lip? The difference in weight is very noticeable.
              The replica is made out of what plastic sporks are made out of; or at least it's what it feels like. My friend bought one and we thought its no different, but it is.

                  There will be a part number and bmw stamp on a real one.

                  I ended up with a fake "i" lip. Why would anyone make copies of that? Oh well, its for winter anyway.

                    If the fake hasn't been painted, you can see the plastic grain in it and it's much smoother than the real deal. Plus it's much heavier as mentioned.

                    Either way, I don't see why to buy a fake when it's a ~$20 difference.
