Letting the cats out of the bag...

Lately I've been hinting about major makeover plans for my e30. Alot of people have persistantly inquired about what exactly my plans are.

I've kept things under wraps while I work out details, but I feel I'm at a point now where I can reveal most of it.

As previously mentioned it is going to be a widebody. I will be using parts of the Flossman GTR e46 M3 kit, most of a M-Technic II kit.

I will be using the front and rear fender flares from the Flossman GTR kit. The rear flares are simple bond and blend flares. The fronts will need to be carefully seperated from the fiberglass e46 M3 fender and a similar process applied.

All the M-Technic II parts I will use will be fiberglass replicas supplied from Eurostyle in Canada. I choose fiberglass because it is important everything can be bonded properly for maximum strength. It is all but impossible to get plastic and fiberglass to bond well to one another.

The front bumper will be a M-Technic II part, widened and flared at the sides.

The front valance will be a M-Technic II part, enlarged mouth, lower lip made deeper with a modified Rieger Infinity lip bonded and blended seemlessly to the bottom of the valance. Similar to Diego's design (inspired, and made true to the original photoshop I did years ago) Valance will also need to be widened and flared.

Side panels are pretty simple. No real modifications except where they meet the flares. I will not be using the M-Technic II sideskirts

Sideskirts will be completely custom made to fit the car from scratch.

Rear bumper will be a M-Technic II.

Rear apron will be similar to what I have now except with a completely functional diffuser. To augment the function the spare tire well will be removed.

"final" concept sketch, roughly colored for affect. Note its not perfect, but a pretty good idea of whats planned.

A couple pictures of the kit parts:

I have not yet decided on keeping the fins on the front flares yet. I think they look pretty good on equiped e46 M3 cars, but not sure how well they will go on a e30. Either way they are not functional in any way, they are strictly styling.

I expect mixed responses on this bombshell. Lets hear what people think eh?

I think that done correctly (which with your skills at the helm, should be no problem), it will look incredible. The sketch you've shown gives a little insight into what it could look like, but I don't think comes close to what the finished design could actually look like. One thing for sure, I definitely think you should ditch the fins on the front flares. It really could go either way. On the one hand, it could just be too much, and look way over the top, but on the other, it could be amazing. It's too hard to say since it's never been done before, so I guess the only way to know is to do it. Should be one hell of an undertaking. If you go ahead with it, I hope you'll keep us updated with the progress.

What wheels would be under those huge flares?

I expect nothing less than perfection, so it will be stunning when finished. Whats the ETA?

You are referring to 6pistons car. I'm really split on his widebody. I like alot of it but the way the flares tie into the body really bothers me. Too rounded.

Lets keep this thread on track though, this is for discussion of my project not 6pistons.

I'd like to be running 285's or so front and back.

Wheels being used will be 18x9.5 ET22 CSL replicas. I won't know how well those will fit without spacers until I actually size them up.

I will start gathering parts come summer, and hopefully start the labor mid to late summer. Too many variables right now to nail down any real date.

im just making the comparison, being as how ure also using an mtech2 front, and "wheel well only" type flares, as opposed to e30 m3 type fender flares...

are you and Jason doing this widebody theme as a team or something?? hehe ;-)

I remember that car looked amazing.

I saw this coming. I think it will look great on your car Jordan, based on the amount of skillful work already apparent on your car. It's hard to picture the rounded mouldings of a widebody to be particularly fitting on your car, EDIT: mosty because of those sideskirts, but I suppose is appropriate to the amount of work you've put into it, inside and out. This pushes the envelope and I like that. However I doubt you'll want to continue using your car as a daily driver. Also, please don't shave your door handles.

HA! I didn't even notice I forgot to draw them. I'm definately not shaving them.

                          Good luck.

I think the real decision maker is going to be where and how the arches tie into the bumpers & side skirts. And get rid of the vents, it will not flow on an e30.

                              Sounds like a nice idea.

I think that you should lose the fins for sure. Like you said, if they aren't functional at all, they are just plain ugly.

I really like what you have done for the rear of the current car, but M-tech II wouldn't hurt I suppose!
If you ever wanna sell that E36 M-look rear, let me know, I'd be interested in buying them!
