get the best gun you can afford. i painted a few cars with a MAC tools gun.. Found out it was a relabeled Taiwan Sunex. it gave out on my halfway through the last paint project. I bought a $300 Devilbiss GFG-670 Plus. IT is fucking amazing. Night and day difference. Regarding paint, i would stay away from eastwood. I got numerous paints from them and i was never satisfied. You need to look for an auto body suppplier. Or go to a shop and ask where they get there material. if you really dont care too much anbout appearance, some professional and experienced amateur painters have used the harbor freight purple HPLV with success. I would try it imo if you were on a strict budget and are not afraid of color sanding.

I've had good luck with the husky hvlp I got from Home Depot. It was pretty cheap.

The cheaper the gun, the more costly the labor. You'll be sanding for days.

Not necessarily. As long as you have a decent gun (even harbor freights work well these days), it comes down to the painter, not the gun.

This may be true, but you have a better chance to get a good quality job with a more expensive gun. I know good jobs can be done with a cheap gun I have done it. I can say that with a known nice gun, you just have to learn technique and gain experience. You won't have to guess if its the gun.

check out your local jobber. they will mix and make any color you want/need, locally and no need to ship. build a report with the guys and find the guy that used to do it for a living. milk them for information. you will probably pay a little more for the stuff you need, but the information gained is priceless.

                        check out autobodystore.com and
autobody101.com. they have some good forums on refinishing. they also sell everything you need except base coats I think.

I just bought their two gun kit. I used the little gun with some leather dye. It is awesome so far. If the larger gun, I think you have a winner. The larger gun comes with 2 tips and a cleaning kit. I think it was $47.99 and don't forget to pull up the 20% off coupon on your phone. Not bad for less than $40

Finex FX2000 conventional spray gun (stay away from HVLP) $120 on ebay for the 1.4mm.
9.3 cfm at 43psi and will work with home compressor. This gun atomizes the paint well and you can get a nice finish with very little orange peel. This is a good gun for low $$.
