need help on my friends 325is please

before we roll the fenders, is there any way to do it with just a hammer?
I have the same problem on my 5 series and just want to know because he doesnt have the fender rolling tool that people talk about.
He is putting wider offset rims and we test fit, and it will not fit cause it will rub.
They are brand new tires also.

thanks for your help, and by the way i have no experience working on the bodies of 3 series, just some 5 series cause i really only do engine work.

You can do it with a baseball bat, don't ask me how.

Look around the internet, but I've been told by more than a few people you can put a baseball bat in between the tire and the inner fender and roll it.

A fender rolling tool can sometimes be rented, I'd call around autoparts stores like autozone. The tool does the same thing, and more precisely than a bat. To visualize what the tool does see:

Something like this for the bat, excuse the ms paint (I have zero computer drawing talent):

I've tried the bat method, I don't get how that could ever work. for one, there's only about 1/4" between my tire and the fender, and second the metal is stiff as hell. I ended up using a sledgehammer, but I have the fender skirts covering the lips so I don't have to worry about chipped paint or wavy edges. if it were me and I had a 325i, I'd definitely try to track down a fender roller and do it right.

yea, no hammer. IT will flake the already fragile paint on the edges.
I just installed 17'' alpina replicas and they rub. I was looking for someone local that has a roller.
But im willing to use a baseball bat

yeah we are just gonna track down a roller then to do the job

he just got it painted black and is worried about damaging the paint or whatnot

            later!

baseball bat works...u have to jack up the car, the put the bat between the fender and the tire, then lower the jack just enough so that there is some weight on the bat, then roll the bat along the fender..VIOLA.
