    Vert repainting question

So I am getting ready to start sanding down my 91 318ic vert and will bring it to a body shop to get resprayed. My question is - should I spring for the 2 stage respray? Looks like a 2 stage respray would be around $1200 or so, with a single stage running 700-800. The body shop says it will look fine in single stage but I know OEM was two-stage. Color is lagoon/laguna green. Car will be garaged and used sparingly. I will be sanding down to the base coat and filling in dents, etc. Any opinions one way or the other?

This sounds like a cheap paint job.

It's cheap but i've seen some of their work and it looks pretty decent. Still getting a few more quotes too.

From what I understand, as a general rule two stage paint will resist rock chips and fade better than most single stage paints.

For that money, if they really can do decent work, I would pony up the additional bucks for the two stage.

I thought the original paint on E30s was single stage.

I thought it depended on the actual color. I think the metallics were two stage.

Factory solids are single and metallics are 2 stage.

Thank you! Good to know since I will need to have the Diamond Black Touring painted after rust repair.
