    E28 M-Tech VS. E30 Tech 1

I would like to get either an E28 mtech wing or a E30 tech one wing sometime soon but first i have a few questions about the fitment of the E28 wing on an E30. Do both wings tilt up at the same angle? It seems to me that the E28 wing has more of an upward tilt. Also does the E28 wing fit completely flush on the edge of the E30 lid or is the curve of the E28 lid a little different? Did some searching but dident find many solid facts so if anyone can find me an informative thread that would be great

The E28 wing hangs over the edge of the trunk lid about a half inch or so on each end. Other than that, I would say that they're pretty much interchangeable.
I think the E28 ones are easier and cheaper to get, though.

Also, you'll have to drill new holes for the e28 spoiler.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone had any issues with abrasion on the fenders in areas where it hangs over?

I don't think it actually touches them, it just sits right above them.

I have one (no pics - I just finished painting it)

It's a royal pain in the ass to install. I got it almost there on the first try. I'm going to cheat the holes by about 2mm to get it perfect. The curve(front to rear) of the e30 trunk is a tiny bit sharper then the e28 trunk lid - but you you get it on really tight, the rubber makes up for it.

The wing (like the iS or MT2) has bolts sticking out of it. The last two on the edge are imposable to get a nut on to (they end up right where the trunk seals) I'm going to use some stainless self-tapping screws or ad a small bolt to to cinch the ends down.

That said, I wanted a e28 wing. I think they look better IMHO. But then again, I like weird things.

BTW - to install it, get 5-6 sheets of paper, tape them end to end, place it on the wing, and push the bolts through the paper. Then use that as a template for where to drill. Expect to spend 2-3 hours figuring it all out before you drill or yor deck lid will look like swiss cheese.

Or just get an Mtech1 and call it a day.

So the bolts on the end go way out on the outer edge of the lid? I herd somewhere that the last bolt on each side dont go outside of the holes for the is/tech1/2 so you can switch them around without hold showing

Haven't tested it but I'm pretty sure it will.

can anyone post a pic of the stud locations for the E28 spoiler on the inside of the decklid? just trying to get an idea of how much work it would be

outside bolts end up where the trunk seal mates to the trunk when closed IIRC.

The IS, M-tech 1 & 2 wings for the E30 mount with 6 bolts/holes. The E28 M-Tech wing uses the same 4 center holes, but the 2 outer holes are further out (@ 1 1/2") than the E30 holes. Attached pictures are an #30 trunk deck & a E28 wing.

Any ideas on what i can do about the outside studs interfering with the trunk seal? im starting to like the looks of the E28 one more than the E30 one and am seriously considering getting one

so this means i only have to drill two new holes then correct? The fore and aft position is the same?
