Rocker panels have some surface rust and I want to get rid of it. Whats the best way to deal with this. I was thinking grinding off all the factory coating with something and than re-spraying with a rock gaurd. Is this the only/ best way to deal with the problem?

As long as there aren't any holes, that would be the way to do it. For removing paint/ chip-guard, I recommend one of these in a grinder:

Works GREAT at stripping paint/rust. Works much better then a twisted-wire wheel, and you don't end up with little piece of wire stuck in your clothes. -
Awesome thanks for the advice. Do you think its necessary to paint over the rock gaurd or just leave it. I read a thread saying that trim paint is the OE way to redo your rockers if there`s no rust.Photoshop by O 16581 72452 5

that rocker guard should be painted over as it is just undercoating, and not real strongComment

I don't think rocker guard is black. The stuff I've seen sprayed is usually beige.sigpicComment

Depends on the products you get. Most you don't HAVE to paint over, but many I've seen come out a color that is less then nice looking.Comment

what is the best paint to recoat the black rocker and valance trim? was it semi-gloss from the factory or more of a satin? Eastwood, SEM?Comment
