when bounded properly, is it at least stronger than regular paint?
I think so, because when I scraped my front lip with normal paint the paint just flaked off instantly but with the plasti dip I can scrape it and nothing hapens, its nice and flexible, also its pretty rock chip resistant.

Bought a can today, hopefully I can try it on my window trim pretty soon. It hopefully will hide the messed up part which is visible since it's aluminum right now (my car was broken into and on the right upper corner of the driver's window the trim is pretty screwed up...)

can somebody post a correct order/timing of the process?

            here's my plan

prep: wash with soap/water and sand with 220 grit sand paper

            1. painter tape the edges surrounding the chrome trim
            2. mask with news paper
            3. add a 2nd layer of painters tape around the edges surrounding the chrome trim (again)

            4. 1st layer
            (wait 30 minutes)
            5. 2nd layer
            (wait 30 minutes)
            6. 3rd layer
            (wait overnight)

            does this sound right?

also, how do i keep the paint from peeling upon removal?

dont know if its a repost

but here is the spec sheet for plastic dip.

I thought its interesting. Its liquid rubber. Its basically resistent to everything as well as UV rays. I cant think of a better product to paint the trims on the car.

I use SEM before and it flakes after 2 years. I did the shadowline on the gfs car using plastic dip, its been a year, and it hasnt seen any wear yet. After seeing the spec sheet, I think it will last much better than the other stuff.

ok i didnt see anyone who asked this question...
ppl keep saying that they didnt have to sand the chrome...
would it last longer if you did sand it. or its always gonnna be the same result if you do or dont sand it?

For those who re-spayed their rocker panels with plasti-dip, how is it holding up so far?

Horrible, all came off, now using krylon fusion satin black, and its been holding up great for 1k miles. the plasti dip only lasted me about 300miles because I scraped on a speed bump and once it starts peeling theirs no stopping it.

Aw man that sucks. I did mine well over 5k ago and they still look great. I scrub them pretty good when I detail the car too.

Although, I was wondering If anyone else had this problem:

I did my side molding (early style) with Plasti-dip and it never fully cured. On the metal its nice and solid like it should be, but on the rubber/plastic part of the trim its sticky like its still wet. I basically did the exact same thing with my mirrors and they came out perfect. Im thinking its because the moldings are rubber though.

Ok, my shadowline is coming off where the door's rubber seal touches the chrome of the trim because of the opening and closing of the door. I don't have passengers often, so the passenger side is still holding on.
I also tested it out in an automatic car was, and the plastidip stayed on, but I found out my moonroof leaks real bad.
                        So well, that's my story.

quick question... for you guys who did the kidneys -- did you tape off the slatted portion, or did you just spray the whole thing?

any one tried using spaycanned Rubber Under Coating for this purpose? Seems like a very similar product.

It's not at all. That's what I used to do my rear valance when I refinished it. It's much thicker and way more textured.

How much prep work did you do before applying the pdip?
