Slight Wax Problem

I was waxing my car yesterday in my garage after a nice wash. I was applying the wax, then i had a friend follow behind me and wipe the excess off with a rag. Inevitably during the process some wax got on the black trim pieces, which shouldn't be a big deal, just wipe it off like the rest of the car.
Unfortunately my friend didn't realize this, and left all the wax along both sides of the car to my dismay. Unfortunately i did not realize this until i pulled the car out in the sun to get a good look.
Here's what i found






I immediatley attempted to remove the wax with the towel, a damp towel, and my fingers, but none of it really had an effect.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this stuff off?

I'd greatly appreciate the help.

You need a bristle brush to get in the crevices to remove, try a toothbrush in a circular motion with soapy water

I actually wax my trim peices after I clay them (except the windshield gaskets). Makes it easier and keeps them from oxidizing like most E30s.

I've had good luck with glass cleaner when I accidentally get some on the window gaskets. You can also try dish soap, that typically will strip the wax off your paint.

same for the first part, ill have to try this second bit

you dont have trouble till you get it on the convertible boot lid gasket, its got some cloth over the center section... doesnt let go of wax

I know what you mean on how difficult dried wax and polishing compound can be to remove from black trim.

The problem is that your trim is likely sun damaged and a bit rough so the wax was able to really stick to it and get trapped in the pores.

In the past I had to resort to using solvents such as Wax and Grease Remover from an automotive paint store.

But the first thing I'd try is a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. That thing works great for so many different applications, I bet it would work well for this too. You can get them at your local grocery store and hardware store in cleaning section.

Also give isopropyl alcohol a try if you have some on hand.

Future reference tape them off with blue painters tape makes waxing jobs easier.

I also wax my trim pieces when i wax the car and dont have that chalky result. Dawn dish detergent is great for stripping things.

Funny this thread popped up because a few minutes ago I just finished waxing and I taped off the trim but when I was waxing i accidently peeled it off.

I just bought the Griot's Garage: Rubber Prep. I've had great success with their products in the past and this looks promising!:D
