Might have been a late '88 production sold as an '89, or just some fuckery somewhere.

Late tails and metal bumpers is '88 only.

I am doing the tucked bumper with plastic valance on my 88 vert. I am trying to figure out why I am getting this, also the adaptor on the side that's loose has been broken off, suggestions:

Looks like the damage on the left was just enough to set it askew

Seems like a lot based on maybe half inch punch in on left side

Maybe try with a new inner valance; shouldn't be hard to find

i personally love my diving boards. not at first but i replaced my stock bumper shocks (1986 325es) with ones from an early model vert and its considerably shorter, i think tucking bumpers usually looks bad especially when the shroud gets wavy, not to mention anybody even bumping into you in a parking spot will do much more damage than you want. as for staying on topic, 1988 had the late model valance on DB, usually looks pretty good, a few pages in on google and you can see more.

I am going to do electrical tape for temporary fix on the shroud, not sure longterm.

How do you screw on the shroud with bumper tuck and valance? Maybe remove valance and bumper, then shroud first, then valance then bumper????

I'm not sure what you're asking...

But the shroud is screwed in to the valance so to get any real access you must remove the bumper first. If you have a deep socket I believe there are 4 10mm bumper bolts holding the bumper to the shock. You undo the corner lights and the bolts on either side of the shocks and just pull the bumper off of the shocks

I think I need to remove the diving board and screw in shroud then replace bumper.

cut out late model rear valance, weld it on early model rear....or go with a zender or racing dynamics rear apron (i think they fit early models)

this is late model rear valance on early model (i plan on doing this too)

                              and link to that thread....

i think this is the zender one

early rear aprons are a bit harder to find but heres a thread to some new(remakes) of them

damn this has to be the most informative post ever....

or i could do the typical R3v response and say...

I'd love to do rear air dam but they're expensive, whew.
