M20 cars are slow as hell without some major work or boost.

Why would anyone want to go through all the trouble of swapping motors for an m20? Just because they're cheap as chips?

    I say boost the m10.

I love M20s, but even in a light chassis like the E30 they really aren't that quick of a motor without throwing tons of money at them. If you're doing a motor swap, are poor and want to be be on the quick side, try an M30B35. That'll really wake you up.

This or 24v, if you want an m20 buy a 325. Do something that's a bit more worth it.

Post a pic of the paint, it can probably be restored unless there are gouges or the like.

I buffed mine, I wish I had before pics. It really turned it around. Also there's a guy that posted a few pics of restored paint that he did with the Glosshaus system, he turned some shit paint into sparkly showroom paint.

That would be a good investment, if you don't know how to do it you can have it done for 2-300 bucks, maybe less. If you do know how to do it you can buy a buffer and compounds for that price.

                        EDIT: Here's the thread... http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=167168

Lots of M10 hating on the forum.. obviously not a lot of guys on here know much about 3 series racing history or about how much reliable power can be had from a turbocharged M10. BMW has had 1000 times more racing success with 4 cylinder engines vs. sixes, a huge chunk of which was obtained with M10 powered (E21) cars. The only reason the U.S. version sucks is that it was downgraded from 2.0L to 1.8L and choked down by the EPA and shitty American fuel.

Be original and consider keeping/souping up the M10.

It might feel good but it is still slow, and what kind of rpms are you looking at around 70mph?

There are a few e30's around here which are fast but not many and none I can think of with n/a m20's although I know they are out there it is not easily obtainable power.

Boosted m10's are good motors, they have a lot of potential and since it's already sitting in the car you might as well give it a shot!

really? i realize the s14 has roots to the m10, but its not a shitty m10. s54,s52,s50 all stock shit all over an m10. m42, m20, m30, m50, m52, m52 all shit on the m10, even stock. do half the mods you would to an m10 to any of the said engines, and they all will shit on a m10. need more proof? youtube e30 m50 turbo, all you see is long burnouts with no traction, youtube turbo m10 e30, and you get about the power a STOCK s52 would pull(if its built), and only for like 1500 rpms which it hauls ass in, while as the s52 has a 5000rpm powerband and it hauls ass through all of em..
i'd really love to see someone backup the claims that a m10 powered e30 out run a similiarly moded m20,m50,m30, which will never happen, because there is no replacment for displacment. the six cylinders will always be faster.

as for the op, turbo it and have fun, im just tired of seeing people say how fast a m10 is, when a honda hatch dx 1.6 auto can easily outrun one. if it were me, i'd throw the m10 in the trash and put a m5x/s5x in its place and have some real power.
