looks extremely similar to my car. black, elips, painted capps, rack....is that a volvo lip? if so, how did you go about mounting it

That is a volvo lip, I used existing clips on the valance and the screws and washer type things that came with the lip and just screwed 1 on each side where there were existing holes and just used a box cutter knife to trim off sides and used a sander to sand the clips that were there which would be on the bottom of it(if mounting like I did) then i just used zipties to bring in the sides so its more flush. It was my first attempt and it turned out alright imo.

I was going to buy one for roof top tire transport to track days before I landed a trailer.

Still interested to hear how sturdy it is.

I don't think it would be sturdy enough for a full set of tires. The metal is REALLY thin.
