    Shaving down the engine bay

JAnderson's build thread got me thinking, lots of good stuff there.
I never realized how THIN the metal on the engine bay is until you can actually press down on it pretty easily. Welding sheet metal to fill the holes seems like a bad idea since it's very thin.
Would it be acceptable to JB weld sheet metal over the holes, fill, sand down, and prep for paint appropriately?
Or what would be the best way to approach this? Thanks.

    No.

it can be done. Just slow tack welds and take your time.

What kind of welder are you going to be using? If you have access and the skill to tig then you can make some nice sheet metal patches, if your using a mig then ya just take your time and turn the volts down. your on your own if your going to stick haha.

fwiw, I just shaved brackets from my bay a few days ago.

Tools: dremel w/ cut-off wheels & grinding stones, small hand files, and sand paper.

Used less than a pea of filler on each fender well.

          No holes. No welding.

              Thanks !

My new favorite-thing-to-do is drink beer and stare at those clean fender wells. Can't get over how dramatic the difference is.

that is the m42 specific radiator. m4x e36's came with that as well
